Ramabai High School

Ramabai High School is right there on the Main Road in Hiriyur. If you're heading through Chitradurga, you've probably passed us. It's a central spot, which makes it easy for the students to get here by bus or walking. The building is a bit older, with that classic look you see in this part of town. We have students from all kinds of backgrounds. It gets quite noisy during the breaks because the Main Road is always busy with traffic and people going about their business. Inside, the classrooms are basic. We have blackboards and wooden benches. The staff room is usually cluttered with notebooks and tea cups. We don't spend much on decorations; we'd rather just keep the roof fixed and the fans running. It’s a practical place. We focus on the syllabus and getting through the exams. Sometimes we have events in the small courtyard, but mostly it's just regular classes. People know us in Hiriyur. We aren't trying to be the most modern school in the state. We just want to provide a decent place for local kids to finish their high school years. Life here is pretty routine. Teachers come in early, the bell rings, and we get started. It’s been this way for a long time. It works for us and the families here. We don't need much more than that to run a school or help the community.
