Surya Bazzar Supermarket

Surya Bazzar Supermarket is tucked away at 117, Narayanaswamy Garden in Kodungaiyur. We opened this place because there weren't many shops nearby where you could get everything in one go. It started small but we kept adding more shelves over the years. Now we have most of the groceries people need for their kitchens, like pulses, oils, and the usual snacks. We spend a lot of time just unpacking crates and putting things back where they belong after a busy morning. The aisles are a bit narrow because we try to fit a lot in, so it gets crowded on Sunday evenings. We know most of the faces that walk through the door since they live right in the neighborhood. It is just a regular family-run store where we take turns sitting at the billing counter. Sometimes the vegetable delivery is late or a certain brand of soap doesn't show up, but we just deal with it as it comes. We aren't some massive chain with hundreds of employees, just a few of us making sure the stock is fresh and the lights stay on. We keep the place clean, though the floor gets scuffed up pretty quick with all the foot traffic. It is a lot of standing on your feet all day, but it feels good to be part of the community here in Kodungaiyur. Most days are pretty much the same, just checking expiry dates and helping people find what they need in the shop.
