St Marks Nursery & Primary School

Adyar is a busy part of Chennai, and 3rd Main Road is where we have been operating for quite some time now. We are located at number 8, which many people remember as old number 70. The building feels more like a large home than a big institution, which seems to work well for the nursery and primary kids we have here. There are several trees along the street that give us some nice shade during the hottest parts of the day. Inside, the rooms are filled with small chairs and low tables that fit the children. We have posters of the alphabet and numbers stuck on the walls with tape that we have to replace every few weeks. It is a noisy place, as you would expect with young children around. There is always someone laughing or someone who needs help opening their lunch box. The staff here are mostly mothers themselves, so they know exactly how to handle the daily chaos of a school day. We do not have a big corporate structure or a lot of rules. If something breaks, we just call the local repairman to come fix it. If we need new supplies, we go to the stationery shop just down the road. It is a very grounded way of running a school. We watch the kids grow up and eventually move on to bigger schools, but while they are here, we just focus on the basics.
