Government Primary School

This little primary school has been part of the Chennai landscape for as long as most of us can remember. It’s just one of those places you walk past and hear the sound of kids reciting their lessons in unison. We don't have a big fancy campus or anything like that. It’s just a few rooms where local children come to get their start. The morning starts with the sound of the metal bell being struck, which you can hear all the way down the street. Inside, the floors are concrete and the desks are old, but it works for what we need. The teachers here are mostly from the local area, so they know the families well. We spend our days dealing with missing pencils, torn notebooks, and the usual energy of small children. During the midday meal, the smell of food fills the hallway, and it’s the one time of day when things actually get a little bit quiet while everyone eats. It gets very hot in the afternoons, and the ceiling fans don't always do much, but the kids don't seem to mind it as much as the adults do. We just try to get through the syllabus and make sure everyone gets home safe when the day ends. It’s a simple life here, without any bells and whistles. We are just a local school doing what we’ve always done for the families in this part of town and keeping the daily routine going for the kids.
