Sri Shanmugam Stores

Sri Shanmugam Stores is located at No 97 on GNT Road, right in the heart of Redhills. Being on the main road means we get a lot of people just passing through on their way to other parts of Chennai. The dust from the road is a constant battle, so we are always wiping down the jars and the shelves to keep things looking okay. It is a typical store where we try to stock a bit of everything that a family might need. Most of our regulars are families living in the streets behind the main road. They come in for their monthly groceries and often stay for a bit of gossip about the neighborhood. I run the place with my brother, and we take turns behind the counter throughout the day. The mornings are for restocking the items and the evenings are for sales when everyone is out. It gets pretty hot during the middle of the day, so we usually keep the fans running at full speed. We don't have a website or anything like that because we don't need one. People just know where we are. We have been here long enough that we have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit, but the shop stays mostly the same. We just keep buying what people ask for and try to be helpful. It is not a glamorous job, but it is steady and we enjoy being here.
