Sri Ahobilamath Oriental Higher Secondary School

We are over in West Mambalam, specifically at No 117 on Kothanda Ramar Kovil Street. This is an old part of Chennai, and the school has been sitting on this street for quite some time. It is an Oriental Higher Secondary School, which gives it a slightly different feel than some of the newer places in the city. The street itself is often full of people going to the temple or visiting the local markets. Our building fits right in with the rest of the neighborhood. Inside, you will find rows of benches and plenty of blackboards. It gets quite warm in the middle of the day, so the ceiling fans are almost always running at full speed. We do things in a very traditional way here. There is a lot of reading and writing going on throughout the day. The staff mostly knows everyone in the area, and we often see the same faces passing by the gates every morning. We do not use much fancy technology; it is mostly just paper, pens, and teachers talking to their classes. The building has some wear and tear, like any place that has been used for years, but it serves its purpose. We keep the hallways swept and the doors open. It is a busy, loud, and very real environment where we focus on the basic task of teaching every single day without much fuss. We are just a local school doing what we have always done.
