Sri Abirami Stores

If you walk down Ramanujam St in Saidapet, you will find us at No.5, which everyone now calls New No.11. This is where Sri Abirami Stores has been for quite a while. It’s a typical neighborhood store where the shelves are packed pretty tight with all sorts of items. We don't have a lot of extra space, so things are stacked high and you have to know exactly where everything is kept. The street outside is usually crowded with people walking to the station or heading home after work. It can get quite noisy with the horns and the people chatting, but we are used to it by now. My staff and I spend the day helping people find what they need, whether it’s a small packet of salt or something for their kitchen. We don't put on airs or try to act like a big supermarket. It’s just a local shop where we know many of our customers by their names. Sometimes we run out of something and have to tell people to come back tomorrow, and they usually don't mind. The floor gets a bit dirty when it rains, and we are constantly sweeping, but that’s just part of running a shop in Saidapet. We focus on getting through the daily list of chores and making sure the inventory is okay. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the shutters go down at night.
