Panimalar Polytechnic College is tucked away on 23, Railway Colony Ii Street, right off Nelson Manickam Road in Chennai. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets with the trains and the traffic. Our pincode is 600094. It’s a very urban setting, so we don’t have a massive sprawling campus, but we make the most of the space we have. You can hear the trains passing by pretty frequently, which becomes background noise after you’ve been here a few weeks. The students are mostly young guys and girls looking to learn a trade or get their technical diplomas. We have labs and workshops that stay pretty busy throughout the day. Chennai heat is no joke, so we’re always making sure the fans are working in the classrooms. It’s a lot of hands-on work here. You’ll often see students with grease on their hands or carrying heavy drawing boards. The staff office is usually a bit of a mess with blueprints and registration forms everywhere. We don’t try to act like a big corporate office. We’re just a technical college trying to help people get their start in life. Lunchtime is always a rush because everyone heads out to the local tea shops nearby. It’s a fast-paced environment, but we enjoy the energy that the students bring. We just keep our heads down and focus on the technical stuff that needs to be taught so the students can get their jobs later on. It’s a decent place to work.
