Arignar Anna Institute Of Science & Technology is situated in Pennalur Village, which is out near Sriperumbudur. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city of Chennai, but that gives us a lot more room. The area around Sriperumbudur is full of big factories and industrial hubs, but once you get into Pennalur, it feels a bit more like the countryside. We focus on science and technology subjects here. The buildings are spread out and we have labs that are filled with equipment that needs constant upkeep. It’s not a shiny, perfect campus like you see in brochures. It’s a working place where things get used and sometimes they get a bit worn out. We have students coming from all over the surrounding villages. Some of them take the bus and some walk. The staff here are practical people. We aren't interested in sounding corporate or using big words to describe what we do. We just try to make sure the students understand their engineering and science concepts so they can actually find jobs after they finish. The weather here can be quite muggy, so the labs can get hot, but everyone just gets on with it. We don’t have a fancy reception area. If you come to visit, you might just find us in one of the halls or the main office area. It’s a straightforward place with a lot of history in the local area around Pennalur.
