Nive Mart

You will find Nive Mart over at 101, Ambedkar Street in West Tambaram. It is a regular neighborhood store where we sell groceries and daily essentials. The street is usually quite lively, and we get people popping in all day long for things they forgot to buy elsewhere. It is a small space, so we have to stack things pretty high to fit everything in. I spend most of my day behind the small counter or restocking the milk and bread in the mornings. It is a lot of work keeping track of what is running low. We do not have a big team; it is mostly just family and one neighbor who helps out. We are not some big chain store with fancy uniforms. We wear our everyday clothes and just chat with the customers who live on this street. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use a flashlight to find stuff for people. It is just part of life here. We try to keep the prices fair so our neighbors keep coming back. There is always someone coming in for a single packet of biscuits or some recharge for their phone. It is not a complicated business. We just open up in the morning, sweep the front, and wait for the first customer. It keeps us busy and we like being part of the community here in West Tambaram. It is just a plain, honest shop for the local people.
