New Selvam Stores

You will find us down in Okkiyam Thuraipakkam, specifically at 3/1361 on Srinivasan Avenue. We are very close to Trinity Garden and the apartments there, so we get a lot of people coming in after they finish their work in the IT parks or offices nearby. The Balaji Nagar area has changed a lot since we first started, but the shop stays pretty much the same. We carry the basic groceries, cleaning supplies, and those small things people realize they forgot at the last minute. The Chennai heat can be really tough in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going and try to stay in the shade behind the counter. It is a busy life, especially on the weekends when everyone is doing their big shopping. We know most of the people from the apartment buildings because they stop by almost every day for milk or eggs. Sometimes the deliveries are late because of the traffic on the main road, and we have to explain that to the customers who are waiting. It’s not a big corporate store with uniforms, just us in our regular clothes trying to get things done. We keep the store open late because that is when the neighborhood really wakes up. It’s just about being there when someone needs a bag of rice or some masala for their cooking. We just keep working and keep the shelves stocked up for the next day.
