New Jayam Hyper Market

Even though we call it New Jayam Hyper Market, we try to keep things feeling like a local shop. We are over at 27/26, Vellala Street in Kodambakkam. It’s a busy area, and there’s always something going on outside our doors. We have more space than the tiny corner stores, so we can keep more variety on the shelves. I spend a lot of my day walking up and down the aisles making sure things aren't falling over. We have everything from groceries to small plastic household items. The billing counters can get a bit hectic in the evenings when everyone is finishing work. I usually have to jump in and help the staff so the line doesn't go out the door. We don't have any big corporate rules here. If a regular customer forgets their wallet, we just tell them to pay tomorrow. It’s that kind of place. The floor is tile and we try to keep it clean, but with so many people coming in from Vellala Street, it’s a constant job. We don't spend money on big ads or flyers. Most people just see the sign when they are heading to the station or the market. It’s a lot of work to keep a bigger place like this going, but we’ve got a good rhythm now. We just keep the stock full and the doors open.
