Namitha Snacks

West Mambalam is full of little winding streets, and we are tucked away on Karunanithi 2nd Street at No 29/12. It is a residential kind of spot, but the people around here know who we are. Namitha Snacks is basically a small family-style operation. We spend most of our time standing around the big frying vats. The smell of hot oil and spices is always in the air. It is not a big factory with machines. It is just a place where we make snacks by hand. The street is quite narrow, so we see our neighbors and the delivery cycles every single day. We do not have a big glossy storefront with lights. People just walk in or we send our products out to the local shops nearby. Some days the humid weather makes the snacks go soft if we are not very careful, so we have to watch the packing closely. We use simple plastic bags and staples to close them up. It is a lot of sitting on low stools and sorting through nuts or flour. The fans overhead do not do much against the heat of the stove, but we are used to it. We have a small radio that plays local songs in the background. It is a simple life for us. We do not have a website or a mission statement. We just make sure the murukku is crunchy and the mixture has enough salt for the customers.
