Mukkala Nammalwar Chetty Vivekananda Vidyalaya School

Our school is located in Kundrathur, right by Post Box No 1. It’s a busy part of Chennai but inside the gate, it’s mostly just the sound of lessons. We’ve been here for a long time. The building is solid, though it needs a bit of paint here and there sometimes. We have many classrooms and the teachers are usually busy with their notebooks. It’s not one of those glass and steel buildings you see in the city center. It’s more traditional. The kids come from all around this area. Some take the bus, others walk. We spend our days going from one period to the next. Lunchtime is when it gets really loud, which is normal for a school. We have a routine that we follow every day. It starts early and ends when the sun is still high. There’s no big secret to what we do. We just follow the syllabus and make sure the students have their books. Sometimes the fans make a bit of noise, but nobody really minds. We deal with the Chennai humidity like everyone else does. It’s just a place for learning. The staff room is usually full of papers and tea cups. We just keep going, year after year, seeing new faces and saying goodbye to the ones who finish their studies. It’s a steady life here in Kundrathur. There are a few trees in the courtyard where kids sit during their break.
