Manickam Stores

Manickam Stores is my small place on Bharathiar Street in Karapakkam. I have been running this shop for a long time now. It is located at 3/49, right in the heart of the neighborhood here in Chennai. We keep the usual things like rice, dal, and different types of soaps. It is not a very big shop, and the shelves are a bit crowded, but I know where everything is kept. Most of the people who come here are my neighbors. They stop by in the mornings for milk or in the evenings for some snacks. The heat in Chennai can be quite bad, so I usually have the fan running all day. Sometimes the delivery guys are late with the bread, and I have to tell customers to come back in an hour. It is just me and sometimes my nephew helping out when he is not at college. We do not have any fancy systems here. I just write everything down in my notebook. The floor is a bit dusty because of the road work outside, but I try to sweep it when I get a chance. Life on Rajiv Gandhi Salai moves very fast with all the big cars and buses, but inside our street, it is a bit quieter. I like talking to the regulars about their families. It makes the day go by faster. We are just a simple local store trying to help the folks nearby get what they need without going too far.
