You can find us at No. 36 on Kalathi Pillai Street, which is right in the Sowcarpet area near Elephant Gate. If you’ve ever been down these streets, you know how tight and crowded they get. It’s a real maze of shops and warehouses, and our place is right in the thick of it. The building itself has seen better days, but it’s solid and it’s where we do everything. We deal with a lot of movement—boxes coming in, stuff going out, and people constantly popping their heads in to ask questions. It gets pretty loud with the rickshaws and the loaders shouting to get through the lane. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist; you just walk in and someone will be there behind a desk or moving some stock. It’s a bit dusty, especially when the wind picks up, but that’s just Sowcarpet for you. We’ve got a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day long to keep the air moving. Most of us have been working here for years, so we know where every single item is kept, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. It’s just a honest, working environment. We don’t put on any acts. We just handle the business at hand and try to stay on top of the orders as they come through the door. It is what it is, just a lot of hard work in a busy neighborhood.
