Kannama Storest

We started this little place at 117 Madurao Garden in Mylapore because we live nearby and noticed there wasn't a shop right on this corner of PM Nagar. It’s not a big supermarket or anything like that. Just a regular room filled with shelves. We carry the usual things like cooking oil, different kinds of rice, and those small packets of biscuits kids like. Most of our days are spent sitting behind the counter watching the traffic go by. Chennai heat can be a lot, so we keep the fan running all day. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow for their specific brand of tea. We don't have a fancy computer system here. Everything is written down in a notebook or we just remember the prices. It’s mostly just us and the neighbors. Sometimes people stop by just to talk for ten minutes while they wait for the rain to stop. We have some plastic chairs outside if it’s not too crowded. The street gets a bit dark at night but our yellow light stays on until nine. We try to keep the place swept, though the dust from the road always finds its way in. It’s just a simple life running a shop in this part of Chennai. Nothing much changes from week to week, and we like it that way. We know which family likes which brand of soap by now.
