Jayanthi Store

We are over at No 46 in Kannagi Nagar, right in the Thoraipakkam area of Chennai. The shop is pretty easy to spot near the PTC stop. Jayanthi Store has been our life for a long time. It’s mostly just us handling everything from opening the shutters in the morning to locking up at night. The heat in Chennai can be quite something, so we have a couple of old fans that hum all day long. We stock the usual stuff like groceries, some plastic items, and snacks for the kids who come by after school. The floor needs a lot of sweeping because of the sand and dust that blows in from the road. It isn't a fancy place with air conditioning or sliding glass doors. We keep things plain. People come in, ask for what they want, and we get it from the back or off the high shelves. Sometimes we sit outside on a stool when it's quiet. We have a lot of regular talk with the neighbors about the local news or the water situation. Working at the store means being on your feet a lot. We don’t have a big team, just family mostly. We try to keep the prices fair and the stock fresh. It’s a busy life in Thoraipakkam, but we like being right in the middle of it all.
