Handy Instant Foods

Handy Instant Foods is tucked away at 7, Chakrapani Street in West Mambalam. It is a narrow street and things can get pretty crowded when people are coming and going. We have a small workspace where we handle all the food mixes and packaging. There is usually a smell of spices or toasted grains in the air, which we don't even notice anymore. We spend our days filling bags, sealing them up, and stacking them in boxes near the door. It isn't a large operation with big machines; it is mostly just a few of us working at the tables and making sure everything is labeled correctly. The neighborhood is quite residential, so we try not to make too much noise early in the morning. Sometimes customers stop by the door to ask what we have ready, and we just talk to them right there on the street. The shelves are packed with ingredients and empty containers waiting to be filled. We have an old computer for the billing, but half the time we just write things down in a notebook first to keep track. It’s a simple way of working, but it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. West Mambalam is a lively area, and being on Chakrapani Street means we are right in the middle of all the local action. We just focus on getting the food packed and sent out to the stores.
