Abinaya Caterers

Our kitchen is located on Prakasam Street in T Nagar. We are quite close to the Valluvar Kottam tank. It’s a very busy part of Chennai and we’re always hearing the noise from the street outside. We spend most of our time cooking big pots of rice and sambar. It’s a lot of heat and steam in the kitchen every day. We don't have a restaurant where you can sit down; we just prepare the food and take it to wherever the party is. We’ve been doing this from house number 2/36 for years. The staff is mostly local people who know how to cook the traditional way. We don't use any fancy machines, just big stoves and heavy ladles. It’s hard work, especially when we have three or four orders on the same day. We have to wake up very early, sometimes at four in the morning, to get started. The delivery van is parked out front and we’re always loading it up with containers. We don't do much marketing. Most of our customers are people from the neighborhood who have known us for a long time. It’s just about getting the food cooked and delivered on time. That’s our daily life here. It’s a lot of sweating over stoves but we are used to it by now. It keeps us busy and pays the bills. There is always something to do in T Nagar. We have to keep moving.
