A S Rajasekar Caterers

Our place is at No 69 on Kodambakkam High Road, which is pretty much right by the Kodambakkam Bridge. If you’ve ever been to T Nagar, you know the traffic is something else. We hear the rumble of the buses and the honking all day and night. The kitchen at A S Rajasekar Caterers gets started way before the sun is up. We have to get the big stoves going and start the rice and the curries. It gets pretty hot in there, especially in the Chennai humidity, but we’re used to it by now. The floors are usually a bit wet from cleaning the vegetables or washing the big aluminum vats. We don't have a big fancy storefront with lights, just a functional space where the cooking happens. The smells of mustard seeds and curry leaves usually fill up the whole building. Sometimes the bridge construction or the road repairs make things difficult, but we manage to get the food out. Most of the guys working here have been around for years. We know the shortcuts through the side streets to avoid the worst of the High Road jams. It’s hard work, standing on your feet for ten hours, but it’s what we do. We grab a quick coffee from the shop next door when there’s a break. It's just a busy, noisy, honest living in the middle of a very crowded part of town that never seems to sleep.
