Government Upper Primary School Dohai is tucked away on 2nd Street, specifically at No 2/18 in the Nanmangalam-Kovilambakkam area. It is a residential neighborhood, so it feels a bit more relaxed than the schools right on the main roads. The street is quite narrow, which makes it a bit tricky when parents are dropping off their kids in the morning. We are an upper primary school. The building is a simple one-story structure for the most part. The classrooms stay relatively cool because of the surrounding buildings providing some shade. Most of the students live within walking distance, so you see them coming in groups from the nearby houses. We don't have a large administrative wing or a big playground. It’s just a few functional rooms where the teaching happens. We have a steady routine that starts at nine and ends in the afternoon. The neighborhood has changed a lot over the years with new houses being built, but the school stays pretty much the same. We have some old cupboards filled with books and maps that have been there for decades. We don't have any high-tech features, just the basic things needed for a school day. It’s a very practical and honest place for the children to learn. We focus on the daily lessons and making sure everything is safe and orderly for the students. People around here have known us for a long time and we are just a regular part of the local life.
