If you go into the heart of George Town and find Perianna Maistry Street, you will find us at No. 6/11. Abbasbhai Taherali & Company has been here in this crowded part of the city for many years. This street is very narrow and it is always full of handcarts, motorcycles, and people carrying heavy loads. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of items. It can be a bit of a maze inside if you don't know where you are looking. We spend our time counting stock, writing out bills by hand, and talking to the customers who squeeze through the door. The building is old and has that specific smell of metal and dust that you only find in George Town. It gets very loud outside with all the shouting and the traffic, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. We don't have any fancy displays or bright marketing materials. It is just the goods we sell and the people who work here. Often, we are moving heavy crates around or trying to find a specific item that a regular customer asked for. It is a family-run kind of feel, even on the busiest days when things get stressful. We drink our tea standing up because there isn't much room to sit. It’s a tight space but we have what we need right here to keep things going. We have been here a long time and know the neighborhood well.
