Ganesh Stores

Ganesh Stores is over on Palayathal Street in Ayanavaram, right near the Noor Hotel. It is a handy spot for people in this part of Chennai to pick up their daily household items. We keep a variety of things on the shelves, from soaps and shampoos to snacks and cooking ingredients. The shop is at 10B, and it’s been a part of the daily walk for many residents for a long time. It can get pretty humid here in Chennai, so we keep the door open to catch whatever breeze there is from the street. You will often see people stopping by on their way home from work to grab a packet of biscuits or some milk. We don't have a lot of staff, just a couple of us managing the billing and the stock. Sometimes we run out of something popular and have to tell the regulars to come back tomorrow once the truck arrives. It’s just a simple, honest way to make a living, being part of the Ayanavaram community. We know the local kids who come in for sweets and the elders who want their specific brand of tea. There isn't any fancy music playing or bright neon signs, just the sound of the ceiling fan and the traffic outside. It's a busy little corner but we like the pace. Most of our day is spent talking to the delivery boys and keeping the jars of snacks full.
