Vandalur is known for the zoo and the heavy traffic on GST Road, and Crescent School is tucked right into that busy landscape at Post Box 3. We have been a part of this Chennai suburb for quite a long time. The school grounds are fairly large, which is a relief when you consider how cramped the city can feel sometimes. From the classrooms, you can often hear the distant hum of vehicles moving along the highway. It’s a constant backdrop to our school day. The buildings are older and have that solid, lived-in feel to them. We don't have shiny new glass facades, but the walls are thick and the rooms are airy. Students come from all over the 600048 area, many of them taking the bus or being dropped off near the main gate. The morning routine is pretty standard—assembly, then straight into the first period. We have a lot of trees on the property, which helps keep the temperature down during the summer months. Teachers here have seen many batches of students come and go through these gates. We just go about our business, focusing on the syllabus and making sure the students are where they need to be. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of place. At the end of the day, when the gates close and the GST Road traffic keeps roaring, there’s a sense of a job well done. We just lock up and head home like everyone else.
