Baree Agencies is located at 17 Kasi Chetty Street in the middle of Sowcarpet. If you’ve ever been to Sowcarpet, you know it’s a maze of narrow lanes and lots of people carrying boxes. Our shop is right in the thick of it. We deal with various items, mostly wholesale stuff that goes out to other shops. The building is old and the stairs are a bit narrow, but it has plenty of character. We don't have air conditioning in the main area, so we just keep the fans going and the doors open. It’s a loud place with all the street noise coming in, but we are used to it by now. We spend most of our time counting stock and writing out bills by hand. There isn't much room for a fancy display, so everything is just stacked up where we can find it. People who come to Kasi Chetty Street know what to expect—it’s crowded and hectic, but things get done. We’ve been operating from this same spot for years. We know the other shopkeepers on the street and we all help each other out when needed. It’s a traditional way of doing business where a handshake still counts for something. We don't need a website to tell people who we are. We just stay here and work hard until the evening shutter comes down.
