Balaji Store

At No.34/175 on Mpm Street in Vyasarpadi, you will find Balaji Store. We are quite close to the BB Road bus stop, so we get a lot of commuters rushing in and out. Chennai is a city that never really cools down, so the shop can get quite warm during the day. We have the usual things you would expect from a local store like rice, oil, soap, and some stationary for the school kids. The shelves are wooden and have been there for years, looking a bit worn out now. We do not have any big advertisements or flashy lights outside. People just know we are here. When the buses pull up, we get a sudden rush of people and then it goes quiet for a few minutes. It is a cycle that repeats all day long. We know the bus timings better than the drivers sometimes. Sometimes we have to move boxes around to make space for people to stand inside when it rains. It is a bit cramped but we make it work. Most of our customers live in the surrounding streets and they come to us for their weekly supplies. We spend the day weighing out goods and chatting about the weather or the traffic. It isn't a grand place, just a corner shop where we try to keep the basics in stock. We have been here through many seasons and we just keep the doors open for whoever needs us.
