Annam Supermarket

The shop is on 62, Main Road in B Mutlur. Being on the main road means there is always noise from the buses and lorries passing by. We started this place because people needed a spot where they could get everything at once. It’s a supermarket but it feels more like a local hangout sometimes. I spend my mornings checking the crates that come in from the suppliers. Sometimes the tomatoes are good, sometimes they are just okay. We put everything on the racks and try to keep it organized. The aisles are narrow. If two people have big baskets, they have to squeeze past each other. It makes the place feel full. I usually have a radio playing in the background but you can barely hear it over the traffic. We don't do anything special here. We just sell what people need for their kitchens and homes. The floor is grey stone and it’s seen a lot of feet over the years. Some days are slow and I just sit near the door watching the rain hit the asphalt. Other days we can’t move fast enough. We have some help from a couple of local boys who help carry the heavy bags of rice for the older ladies. It’s just a regular business. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to keep the shelves stocked for the morning rush. My wife helps me with the accounts in the evening. It’s a lot of paper but we manage to stay organized.
