Ahamed Stores

Ahamed Stores is over at 44, New Colony Main Rd in Adambakkam. This part of New Colony is always moving, especially with the bikes and cars zooming down the main road all day long. The shop itself isn't very big, so we have to use every bit of space we have. We’ve got bags and boxes stacked in the corners and items hanging from the rafters sometimes. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people come in at once, but we make it work. The floor is that old grey cement that’s seen a lot of feet over the years. We spend a good chunk of our day just checking the stock and writing down what’s running low on a scrap of paper. It’s a lot of manual work, moving crates and making sure the front looks decent for anyone walking in. Adambakkam can get pretty humid, so we usually have a small radio playing in the background to keep things lively while we work. Most of our regulars are people living in the nearby apartments who just need a few things for their kitchen. We don't have a website or any of that. If someone wants to know what we have, they just pop their head in and ask. It's a straightforward way of doing things. We stay open late most nights because that's when the road finally starts to quiet down a little bit.
