If you go down Thakur Dwara Road in Mani Majra, you’ll find us at Shop No-768. We are right near the mandir. It’s a small place, just TAJ DHABA. We don’t have fancy air conditioning or velvet chairs. It’s just wooden benches and honest food. Chandigarh is a nice city, but Mani Majra has its own feel. It’s more crowded and lively. We start early in the morning, getting the fire going. The 160101 area is where we grew up. We know most of the people who walk by. Sometimes they stop for a tea, sometimes for a full meal. We don't have a mission statement or any of that talk. We just cook what we know. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, and the floor is a bit uneven, but it’s our place. It gets loud when the temple has a festival. We like the noise, though. It makes the day go by faster. We aren't trying to win any awards. We just want to make sure the dhal is seasoned right and the rotis are fresh. That’s enough for us. Working at Shop No-768 is what we do every single day. It’s not a corporate office. It’s just a dhaba on Thakur Dwara Road. We keep the water jars filled and the tea glasses ready. It’s a simple way to spend the day in Chandigarh for us.
