Dil Desi

Sector 32d in Chandigarh is a pretty lively area with a lot of students and young people around. We are tucked away in Bay Shop Number 407, not too far from the Subway. Dil Desi is a small joint where we focus on the kind of food we all grew up eating at home. We don't have a massive menu with a hundred items. We just do a few things and try to do them right. The shop isn't very big so it can get a bit cramped during the peak hours in the afternoon. Most of our customers are looking for something affordable that tastes good. We use simple ingredients that we buy from the local market. There’s no corporate office or big manager here. It’s just us behind the counter making sure the food is hot and the plates are clean. Chandigarh has a lot of fancy cafes now but we like staying traditional. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint and the chairs aren't the softest but no one seems to mind. People come here to eat and chat for a bit before heading back to their classes or work. It’s a nice community feel in this part of the sector and we’ve made a lot of friends over the years. We don't use any fancy marketing tricks. We just rely on the word of mouth from the students who live in the PGs nearby. It’s a simple business but it keeps us busy.
