Matta Purses

You can find Matta Purses up on the second floor of 6661 in Nabi Karim. We are right by Neemwala Chowk. Being on the second floor means it's a bit quieter than the ground level, but we still hear all the horns and shouting from the market below. We focus mostly on purses. The room is filled with different designs and materials. It’s a workshop and a shop all in one, really. There are always pieces of thread and scraps of lining on the floor. We spend our days cutting and stitching. It’s hard work on the hands, especially after a long week. My uncle taught me how to do this when I was younger. We don't have a big sign out on the main road, so you have to know where you're going to find us. Most of our customers are other shop owners who buy in bulk to sell elsewhere. We don't spend money on marketing or ads. The stitching speaks for itself, I think. Sometimes we work late into the night when there's a big order to finish before the weekend. We drink a lot of chai to keep going during the slow hours. It’s a simple life. We make things that people use every day to carry their money and phones. It's good to know our purses last a long time. It’s just us here, working away in Nabi Karim, keeping the business going year after year.
