Umar Bag

We are tucked away on Qutab Road, right near the Nabi Karim Thana in Paharganj. If you know this area, you know how crowded it gets with the markets and the narrow lanes. We've been making bags here for a long time. It’s a family thing, mostly. The shop is full of fabric, zippers, and thread everywhere you look. It's noisy with the machines running but we're used to it. People come by asking for all sorts of styles. We just show them what we have on the shelves. It’s a lot of work, sometimes working late when there's a big order to finish. Paharganj is a tough place to work because it never sleeps. There’s always someone moving something on a cart outside. We don't have a big fancy showroom. It's just the workshop and a small space to talk to people. We focus on the stitching and making sure the handles don't break. That’s the main thing people care about. Sometimes we run out of a certain color and have to wait for the delivery guy to fight his way through the traffic. We like being near the police station because it’s a good landmark for people who get lost in these streets. It’s just how we live and work here. Nothing more to it. We keep the machines oiled and the lights on, day in and day out, making sure the orders get done.
