A S Engineering Works

Our workshop, A S Engineering Works, is located at 25/7 in Gali Number 9 of the Anand Parbat area. This place is right in the middle of a very old industrial zone, so the whole street is filled with the sound of metal hitting metal and machines grinding away. It’s a very loud environment and you have to shout sometimes just to be heard over the noise. The walls inside our unit are stained with oil and smoke from years of work. We have a few lathes and drilling machines that take up most of the space on the shop floor. My hands are almost always covered in a thin layer of grease or metal dust. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting room; if someone wants to talk to us, they just walk right into the workshop. We spend the day taking orders for custom metal parts or fixing broken machinery that people bring in. It’s hot and sweaty work, especially when we are welding and the sparks are flying everywhere. We usually take a break around four o’clock when the chai wallah comes through the lane. We sit on whatever crates or stools are available and have a quick drink before getting back to the machines. It’s hard work, but it is what we know how to do. The floor is always a bit cluttered with metal scraps, but that’s just how engineering shops are.
