This little operation is Vakratunda Shetkari Producer Companylimited. We are based at House Number 157 in Atthar, at Prashant Ashokrao Fokmare’s place. It’s a quiet spot, but there’s always something going on. We are a bunch of farmers from the Atthar area who wanted to do something together. Most of us have been farming since we were kids, so we know how tough it can get when prices drop or the rain doesn't show up. We aren't business experts; we just know what grows well in our soil. The company is basically just a way for us to get together and sell what we grow without too many middlemen. We spend most of our time in the dirt, not in an office. When we do have to handle the paperwork, we sit down at the house and go through it one page at a time. It’s a bit of a slow process, but we get it done. We handle different kinds of grains and whatever else is being harvested in the local fields. It's hard work and doesn't leave much time for anything else. We don't have any fancy mission statements or slogans. We just want to make sure the work we do in the fields actually pays off at the end of the season. Sometimes we have disagreements about which seeds to buy or when to sell, but that's just how it goes with a group of friends. We all live right here, so we see each other every day anyway. It’s just a local effort to keep our farms going and our families fed. We aren't trying to be anything we aren't. We’re just farmers trying to do right by the land and our people.
