You’ll find us in Sonoshikin-Gaon, which is out in the Shindkhed area of Buldhana. Our central point is at the home of Shri Uttam Rambhau Aghao. We aren’t a big operation with a lobby and secretaries. We are just a group of farmers who decided that we should work together under the name Rajinkya Agro. Buldhana is a tough place to farm sometimes because the rain is never quite what you expect it to be. We meet up at Uttam’s house to figure out our plans for the season. It’s usually just a few of us sitting around, maybe with some tea, talking about who has the best seeds or how we can get a truck to move our produce. We don’t have any fancy mission statements or corporate goals. Our main focus is just making sure we don’t get cheated at the market and that we can afford to plant again next year. Sonoshi is a quiet village, and everyone knows what we’re trying to do. It’s not always easy to get everyone to agree, but we try our best. We are just local people who know the soil and want to keep our farms going. There’s nothing polished about it. We have dirt on our hands and a lot of practical problems to solve every single day. We are just a small part of the farming life here in Shindkhed. It is hard work, but we keep at it.
