Prarambha Farmer Producer Companylimited is situated in Chaitanyawadi, Buldhana. The name Prarambha means the beginning, and that’s exactly how it feels for us right now as we get started. We are working out of a small space on the main road, and it’s become a bit of a hub for the local farmers to drop by and share news about their crops. Buldhana is a place where people work hard and don't expect much to be handed to them on a platter. We formed this group because we were tired of seeing the middlemen take most of the profit while the person doing the actual planting and harvesting got very little. It’s a learning process for all of us every single day. None of us were trained in business; we learned everything from our elders and by making our own mistakes in the fields over the years. We talk about everything from the cost of seeds to the new rules the government puts out. Sometimes we sit until late in the evening trying to figure out how to get a tractor repaired or where to store the grain if the warehouse is full. It’s not always pretty and we definitely don't have all the answers, but we are trying our best. We want to make sure that the farmers in Chaitanyawadi have a place they can trust. It’s about building something that lasts longer than just one season and gives our kids a reason to stay in the village.
