Azad Watch

In the middle of Indira Market you can find us sitting among hundreds of ticking sounds. It’s a small shop but it’s packed with watches of all kinds hanging on the walls and lying in the glass cases. Most of our day is spent with a magnifying glass held to one eye while we poke at tiny gears and springs. People bring in watches that stopped working years ago hoping we can bring them back to life. It is very quiet work even though the market outside is incredibly noisy with people shouting and horns honking. We have a lot of little drawers filled with watch batteries, different sized pins, and leather straps that smell like new shoes. Sometimes we just have to tell someone their watch needs a good cleaning because the dust from the street got inside. We also sell some new wall clocks that chime every hour which can get a bit confusing if they aren't all synced up exactly. We have a small wooden bench outside where people sometimes sit while we change a battery. It’s a slow and steady kind of business and we like the precision of it. You have to have a lot of patience to work here because the parts are so small you can barely see them without the special lens. We just take our time and fix one thing at a time.
