Star Hot Chips

The smell of frying oil is something you get used to when you work at Star Hot Chips. We are located at No 74 on 1st Main Road in JC Nagar. It’s a small shop, mostly just the large frying vats and the wooden racks for the finished chips. We make them fresh every day using local produce. Bangalore weather is usually good for a hot snack, especially when it rains. We spend a lot of time slicing potatoes and bananas by hand. It’s hard work standing near the heat all day long, but we like seeing people enjoy the snacks we make. We pack them in simple plastic bags and tie them with those little colored threads. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us doing the frying and the packing. The floor can get a bit oily, so we have to be careful when walking around. People stop their scooters right outside to grab a packet on their way home in the evening. We see the same faces every day. It’s a busy part of JC Nagar, and there’s always something happening on the street. We don’t have fancy packaging or labels, just the clear bags so you can see the chips inside. Sometimes we try different spices like chili or pepper, but the regular salted ones are what most people want. It’s a simple business. We open in the afternoon and stay late until everything is sold out.
