Sri Radhakrishna Theatre

Sri Radhakrishna Theatre has been standing at Rabrindranath Tagore Nagar Versova 25 for a long time. You can see the age in the walls and the way the stairs creak when a crowd goes up. It’s not one of those new multiplexes with reclining seats and expensive snacks. Our seats are old, and they’ve seen thousands of movies over the decades. The projector room is small and gets very hot during the matinee shows. We still have that old smell of popcorn and floor cleaner that you only find in neighborhood cinemas. Most of our regulars are families who have been living in Versova for generations. They know exactly which fan makes the most noise. We don't have digital posters everywhere; sometimes we still use the painted ones if we can get them. The lobby is small, so it gets crowded quickly before a show starts. We’ve had to fix the plumbing more times than I can count. Running a theatre like this is hard work, especially when everything is moving to streaming, but there’s something about the big screen that keeps us going. When the lights go down and the movie starts, all the cracks in the walls don’t seem to matter as much. It’s just about the story playing out in front of everyone in the dark. We keep the tickets cheap so anyone can come in. It’s just a part of the local history here.
