Gopalan Cinemas

If you come down to Vinayaka Nagar Radio Market, you’ll find us at number 148. Gopalan Cinemas has been around this neighborhood for a long time. The building is a bit older, and the stairs can be a little creaky when the crowd comes in for the evening show. We spend most of our time making sure the projector doesn't act up and the sound is loud enough for the back rows. It’s a lot of work cleaning up the aisles after the movie ends because people leave their wrappers everywhere. We try to keep the lobby tidy but it’s tough when three shows happen back to back. The ticket booth is small and the glass has some scratches on it. We sell the usual snacks, mostly popcorn and some sodas in the plastic cups. Sometimes the air conditioning takes a minute to cool the whole room down, so we tell people to be patient. We don't have those fancy reclining seats like the malls do. Ours are just the standard flip-down ones, and maybe a few have some wear and tear. It’s a local theater for the families around here who don't want to drive all the way into the city. We know many of the faces who show up every Friday. The parking area is a bit tight, so things get messy on the weekends. We just do our best to get the reels running on time and keep the lights working.
