If you walk down Nagarbhavi 10, you’ll probably smell us before you see us. We’re Bansuri Sweets, and we spend most of our lives around big vats of milk and sugar. It’s a sticky business, honestly. Our clothes always smell like cardamom and ghee by the time we go home. We have a couple of big glass counters that we’re constantly wiping down because of all the fingerprints from kids looking at the trays. The shop isn't very large, so when a few people come in at once, it feels full. We don't have a lot of fancy packaging. We just put things in boxes and tie them with a bit of string. Most of our recipes are things we learned from our parents, and we haven't changed them because they work just fine. Sometimes the batch doesn't come out perfectly, maybe a little too brown or not sweet enough, so we just sell those for less or eat them ourselves. We know most of the neighbors and their kids. They stop by after school for a quick snack. We don't do any big promotions. We just open the shutters in the morning and start boiling the milk. It’s hard on the feet, standing on the tile floor all day, but we like the routine. It’s just a local sweet shop doing what we know how to do.
