Banchharam Sweet

This sweet shop is in Koramangala VI Block, at Survey No 83. It’s part of the Anant Industrial Estate, number 153. It’s an odd spot for a sweet shop, surrounded by all these small factories and workshops. But workers come here for their tea break to get something sugary. We make everything in the back. It’s hot and smells like milk and sugar all day long. We have the usual stuff like rasgullas and sandesh. Some of it we bring in, but most is made right here. The display case is old and the glass is a bit scratched. We’ve been here for years. It’s a family thing, my uncle started it and now we all help out. The industrial estate is dusty and there’s always the sound of machines nearby. We don't have fancy packaging, just simple boxes and paper. People come from the offices too. We don't really do much for marketing. The sweets speak for themselves, I guess. We stay open until the evening. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use candles. It’s just a local shop. We know the people who work in the surrounding units. It’s a busy, sticky business but it keeps us going. We just try to make sure the milk is fresh and the syrup is right every morning. Sometimes we run out of the favorite stuff by four in the afternoon. We just close the shutter when everything is finished.
