Om Engineering Works

Om Engineering Works operates out of Shed C2/4 in the GIDC area of V. U. Nagar. It is a standard industrial shed, nothing special to look at from the outside, but it is where we spend ten hours a day. The GIDC is a massive place and it can be easy to get lost in all the lettered and numbered streets. Our shed is just big enough to fit our main machines and a small workbench for assembly. There is always a pile of metal shavings under the lathes that needs sweeping up, though we usually wait until Friday to do a proper cleaning. The air inside always smells a bit like burnt sparks and oil. We have a few fans bolted to the walls to keep the air moving, but it still gets pretty stuffy when the sun hits the metal roof. Most of our neighbors are also in engineering, so there is a lot of shouting back and forth across the lanes. We do not have a dedicated receptionist or anything like that. If you come by, you will likely find us at the back with our earplugs in. We just handle the jobs as they come in, one by one. It is a straightforward way to make a living and we have gotten used to the rhythm of the industrial estate over the years.
