Sant Attar Singh Rice Mill

Sant Attar Singh Rice Mill is sitting right in the middle of Village Shahpur Kalan. If you know the Cheema Mandi area, then we are not too far from there. Being a rice mill, things can get pretty dusty and loud whenever the machines are running. That is just how the work goes. The village is a tight-knit spot, and almost everyone knows where the mill is located. We have tractors and big trucks coming in and out of the yard all day long, especially during the harvest months. It gets really busy then, and there is not much time for sitting around or talking. The air around the mill usually smells like grain and earth. We do not have a fancy office or a nice reception area with soft chairs for people to sit in. It is more of a functional workspace for us. There is a lot of heavy lifting to do and the floor stays covered in bits of rice husk. We have been here in Shahpur Kalan for a long time. The workers here are mostly local men who have been doing this kind of labor for years. They know exactly what sounds the machines should be making. It is not a polished environment. It is just a working mill. We have a small corner where we keep the books and handle the paperwork, but most of everything happens out on the main floor. Cheema Mandi is where we head when we need supplies. It’s a basic life.
