Dass Rice & Oil Mills

We have been operating out of Muradpur Road for quite some time now. In Tarn Taran, everyone knows this area for the milling business. It is not a fancy place, just a working mill where the floors are often dusty from the grain. We spend most of our mornings unloading trucks and checking the machinery. The oil mills make a specific sound that you get used to after a few days of working here. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, then we just sit outside and wait for it to come back. It is just part of the routine. We do not have a big office or anything, just a desk near the main gate where we keep the logs. My father used to say that the smell of pressed oil never leaves your clothes. He was right about that. We see a lot of the same farmers every year. They bring their harvest and we get to work. It’s hard labor, especially when it gets hot in the summer months. We try to keep things moving as fast as we can so nobody has to wait too long. The shed in the back is where we keep the bags stacked up. It gets pretty crowded during the peak season. If you are coming down Muradpur Road, you can usually hear the engines running from a distance. We just keep our heads down and do the job as it comes. It is mostly rice and oilseeds passing through the gates. Not much has changed here in twenty years.
