Parkash Rice Mills

Out here in Village Buttar Bukaha, life moves at a different pace. Parkash Rice Mills is right in the heart of the community. Most of the people who work here live just a short walk away. You won't find any skyscrapers or big shopping malls nearby, just fields and the sound of the mill running. We have an old metal gate that needs a bit of oil, but it does its job of keeping the place secure at night. Inside, the smell of raw rice is everywhere. It gets into your clothes and stays there. We don't have a professional marketing team or anything like that. We just talk to the farmers when they bring their harvest in and figure out the prices. My desk is an old wooden one that belonged to my father, and it’s still sturdy as ever. Sometimes the rain makes the road to the village a bit muddy, which slows down the trucks, but we are used to it by now. We spend our days watching the weather and hoping for a good season for everyone. It is hard work, especially when the humidity is high and the machines are hot. We just keep going because people need what we make. There is no mystery to it, just regular folks doing what they know how to do best in our little village. We don't ask for much, just a steady stream of work and enough sunshine to dry the grain.
