New Rice Mills

New Rice Mills is located out on Baja Khana Road. Despite the name, we aren't exactly the newest place around. We have been on this stretch of road for a good number of years now. The location is good because the trucks have enough room to turn around in the yard without getting stuck in the mud. The building is a simple structure made of concrete and metal, and it does the job it was built for. We don't have any fancy offices or air conditioning. On hot days, we just open all the doors and hope for a bit of a breeze to blow through the workspace. The work is physical and can be quite tiring, especially when we are loading the heavy sacks onto the transport trucks. We take turns watching the machines to make sure nothing gets jammed up in the rollers. The sound of the mill is constant, a deep thumping that you can feel in your feet while you stand on the floor. We have a small corner with a table and a few chairs where we take our breaks and talk about the weather or the local news. It is a quiet kind of life, mostly governed by the arrival of the crops each season. We don't use any complicated systems, just a lot of common sense and hard work. People around here know where we are, and they know we just get on with things without any unnecessary talk or polish.
