Gupta Corner

Gupta Corner is at Shop No. 15 on Majitha Road in the Medical Enclave area of Amritsar. We are situated near the Ganda Nala, which is a well-known landmark for everyone around here. The shop is a small corner spot where we keep a variety of general items. Because we are in the Medical Enclave, we see a lot of people who are either visiting the nearby hospitals or living in the residential quarters. The shop is quite basic, with some glass jars on the counter filled with toffees and small snacks. I keep the shop running from morning until late evening. It can get a bit smelly sometimes because of the nearby drain, but we are used to it and just keep the shop clean inside. We have a wooden bench outside where people sometimes sit for a minute while waiting for someone. The shelves are made of simple plywood and are stuffed with everything from toothpaste to tea leaves. Amritsar weather can be harsh, so the shop gets very cold in winter and very hot in summer. I use a small heater near my feet when it gets chilly. We don't have a computer, so I do all the math in my head or on a piece of scrap paper. It’s a very straightforward place. People come in, ask for what they need, we have a little talk about the local news, and they go on their way. It’s just a regular neighborhood shop at Gupta Corner.
