Ganga Rice And General Mill is situated on Patti Road, not far from King Collage. We spend our days milling rice and dealing with various grains. It’s a noisy place when the machines are running, but that’s the sound of work getting done. Because we are near the college, there are always students walking by, though they usually just stop in for a snack or something from the general store part of our building. The mill is an old-fashioned operation. We don't have fancy computers to run things. It’s all about the machines and the strength of the workers who move the heavy bags. During the harvest season, the yard gets completely full of tractors and carts. It's a busy time and we often work late into the night to keep up with the demand. My clothes are usually covered in a fine layer of grain dust by the time I go home. We don't do any promotional stuff. People in the Patti area know us because we’ve been here for years. If the rice is milled well, the word spreads. That's good enough for us. It’s a tough job sometimes, especially when the weather is humid, but it feels good to be part of the local agriculture cycle. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s not a corporate office, just a real mill where people work hard.
